Spiral Staircase Systems offer a full design service including surveys, 2D and 3D working drawings and 3D model printing. From our offices in East Sussex design proposals are taken through to production in our adjoining wood and metal workshops. Site fixing of our works is carried out by our own employed staff to a consistently high standard.
We have been supplying custom built spiral, helical and straight staircases with associated balustrading to an international marketplace since 1966. Our design projects include full structural design and recommendations for the design of the supporting structures.
Spiral Staircase Systems was founded as Lewes Design Contracts Ltd in 1966.
Our first design was the original Domestic Stair, using a system of cast iron brackets, laminated timber treads and handrail and steel balustrading. With refinement, and a changed to cast aluminium, this system remains in production today as part of the DS range.
By 1969 we had outgrown our Lewes premises, and moved to the nearby village of Glynde where manufacture continues to this day.
We have dedicated woodwork and metalwork facilities as well as an onsite drawing office. Its here where all the bespoke feature stairs are designed and constructed, before being dismantled and transported to site.
Today Spiral boasts an impressive client list having supplied staircases for some of the most high profile companies in the World.
Spiral built its reputation on design, starting off on domestic modular style staircases, however, over the years the company has concentrated more on the design, fabrication and installation of bespoke feature staircases. Very few companies in the world are capable of this level of design quality.
It is sometimes necessary to take ideas produced by architects and work through the process to make them both elegant and practical.
Spiral have always been keen to stay up to date with the latest industry techniques and practices embracing rendering, 3D printing, Laser cutting, CNC machining and augmented reality to assistance in production and client visualization.
In order to maintain a high level of quality and finish Spiral aim to do as much work in house as possible with an onsite drawing office, wood work facility and metal fabrication workshops. We partner with our suppliers to ensure our quality is assured.
Spiral are proud to have worked for some of the UK's most innovative and reputable architects and building contractors, providing staircases for high profile individuals and companies.
